This piece shows the ebbing and flowing of the Murrumbidgee River. It shows the many cycles of its time, from drought, to flooding- the water’s edge, lifting and sinking as the season’s shift.
As a child of the river, we grew up learning to give it nothing but respect. Playing along the water’s edge, digging toes into the rough sand, cruising in pop’s tinnie as free as the birds that would fly above us. Canoeing as a teenager and floating weekend after weekend down to the beach, this was growing up at the river. This artwork presents my emotion toward the majestic Murrumbidgee- almost a living being- moving, breathing flowing- sustaining life and providing memories. This piece is part of the Bnagal-buwu-rayi collection. It is an original artwork, framed in an oak float-frame.
