Polly Kimmorley

Born in Dubbo, NSW, Polly Kimmorley moved as a young girl with her family to their property on the banks of the Darling River. Here she received her first box of paints, which began a lifelong love affair with colour, paint and her environment. Winning a scholarship to Mitchell School of Arts in Bathurst allowed Polly entrée into the world of art. She has continued studying with many professional artists over the years and has embraced ongoing collaboration and exhibition opportunities.

As a young woman, Polly married into a local grazing family, moving with her husband and daughters to their remote property ‘Ballycastle’, and later ‘Akuna’. Using light aircraft at times to fly over their property, Polly was stirred by the sprawling landscape with its magnificent colours, patterns and textures – wide open spaces with vivid reds, golds and ochres racing up toward brilliant blue skies or meandering along the edges of rivers and creeks. These aerial landscapes have become a part of Polly’s passion, inspiring her ongoing vision and perspective of Outback Australia. Following the sale of their property, the family moved to Dubbo, where Polly became owner and director of The Clay Pan Gallery staging regular exhibitions, and strengthening her involvement in The Arts Community. More recently, a coastal move to Forster, on the Mid North Coast of NSW.

Polly’s time is shared between travelling and painting. She incorporates the use of a drone in her travels, enabling her to capture the many aspects of the landscapes she brings onto her canvases. Polly’s large-scale paintings are immersive, inspired by her environment, memory, and her rich internal landscape, all of which enhance the world she sees. Polly is a colourist with a joy ignited by nature’s rich palette. This allows her to express the natural world that is never far from her heart. She invites her audience to come under this country’s spell and to share the freedom, diversity, power and presence of the Australian landscape.
