British-born artist Matthew Watts has had group and solo shows in the UK, America and Australia. Emigrating to Australia in 2001 he now lives in Melbourne’s inner-north. Matthew considers himself essentially a painter ‘of places and things’ and has been painting for over thirty five years, making new work on a daily basis. His subject matter reflects the temporal aspects of everyday life he sees around him but which is common to us all; our surroundings, the things we surround ourselves with and the often quotidian nature of our existence. He engages with and responds to these things through drawing and painting.
